No Easter Bunny?!
I think one of the biggest ways our family saves money is our kids know the truth, there is no Easter Bunny. Yes, we do Santa-my parents might die if I ruined their grandchildren's innocents, but we decided against the bunny. It wasn't solely based on a money stand point, my kids didn't really buy the fact that a bunny could deliver candy and the movie "Hop" made Brooke very uneasy about jelly beans, if you've seen the movie you understand why if you haven't seen the movie just think of what magical way jelly beans can come from a bunny. With all of that being said, we told them they aren't allowed to tell other kids that the Easter Bunny isn't real, they have to keep that a secret and not be little brats and ruin other kids Easters. We want them to know the truth behind these holidays, Easter, Christmas, Valentine's Day, even St. Patrick's Day. We want them to know there's a religious background to most holidays and the reason we celebrate them isn't for presents or for mom to slave over the stove making green pancakes. They know that Christmas is celebrated because Jesus was born and we've begun explaining that Easter is about the day Jesus rose from the dead after dying for us. A little morbid to explain as opposed to the happy meaning of Christmas, but they understand now and it makes the holidays feel a little bit better when your kids know that Jesus is the reason we have a holiday not because we felt like showering them with presents. Not that we bash families that celebrate for the gifts, that's fine, that's their thing but "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord"-H. Bryan Richards.
