Meltdown in aisle 4!
Shopping with kids is honestly one of the things I hate the most, which is why I rarely do it-that and it's a nice little mommy vacation to go out and shop without them from time to time. There are somethings though that I need the kids there to buy, for example bathing suits for Callie. I know, I know, we have a whole blog post on this already but now it's actually bathing suit season and my worst nightmare has come true! I noticed a lot of the bathing suits come with cute little "board shorts" and I was so excited because that's perfect and what we need, Callie however wasn't feeling it. She wanted a different bathing suit, one that doesn't come with board shorts. After looking at every single store, and I mean literally every store, she found one bathing suit she absolutely loved! It was rainbow and had a huge picture of a unicorn on it, it looked like it was made for her in all honesty. We grabbed it and walked around some more looking for just the shorts to go with it, I figured they'd have some because they have them for women. I was wrong. I told her to go put it back with tears in my eyes and my four year old did something every parent has nightmares of happening. She threw a fit in the middle of Target. She didn't care people were watching she just wanted the dang bathing suit! I probably looked like the world's worst mom because I was taking away a perfectly good bathing suit and replacing it with a less cute one that had shorts. While parents stared at me I did what any good parent would do. I walked away, I let her have her moment. I realized nothing I said would help her at this moment. This was something I never experienced and would never experience, when I find a bathing suit I like I just buy it and move on I don't have to worry about anything like that. After she was done throwing a fit she walked over to me, she knew I was still in the store, she said sorry and asked if I still had that bathing suit(the ugly one) I said no and told her I put it back and we should go look somewhere else because I know other stores do sell board shorts for little girls. She knew exactly what that meant, she was getting the unicorn bathing suit! This probably also made me look like a bad parent, I totally caved to the fit but honestly it's a fit that shouldn't have been needed. Sure I will teach her to control her emotions, but I'm not sure how one is supposed to express themselves when they feel unwanted and like they're an outsider and literally hate their body. Heck I would throw a fit too! Maybe this post will reach someone who knows someone and every store will start selling board shorts in the little girls section, I can promise you we aren't the only family that would be buying them.
