Is it St. Daddy's Day?
Having Jason live in a different state is tough, as much I love the fact I'm a single mom and still get to have a man on the side I hate the fact he misses out on so much. I was hoping that since Fathers' Day is in June my kids wouldn't realize that most dads live in the same house, let alone area, as their kids. Little did I know St. Patrick's Day now has events in which dads need to make appearances. Literally it's called "St. Paddy's Day with daddy", it's not on a day which the kids typically have school so I'm not sending them in but the fact my four year old came to me asking if it was "St. Daddy's Day" made my heart break into four million pieces. People hate when I say this because we aren't a military family, but I'm starting to realize what it's like to be a military spouse and my kids are realizing what it's like to be military brats. I realize we control this and I could technically move at any time and have the kids be closer to Jason, but to take them away in the middle of the school year just wouldn't be fair to them. As for St. Daddy's Day, we'll try to make due, it might be hard to be the only kids in class without dads but they know he loves them and would go to the school event if he were home. He even offered to make the nearly four hour drive home just for the breakfast event, but that wouldn't be fair to him-or his coworkers! I can't wait for the day when people realize that kids of police officers and fire fighters often have it just as hard as military kids, we always get told we should just be happy he's not over seas but sometimes we forget he's not because those four hours seem so far away. He's missed first words, he's missed Hunter's first base hit, he missed Brooke stick her landing on a beam routine, he's missed so much and yet people think that he can be home at any time he pleases. That's not the case at all, even when we all move to the new house we still won't see him as much and he'll still miss out on so much. The St. Daddy's Day Event is on the beginning for us in this long daddy related dates that they'll miss out on, I'm just hoping and praying it gets easier-or we move somewhere that doesn't have daddy dates! Whichever comes first.
